Oil-Free Calzone Dipping Sauce

This quick and easy recipe takes only a couple of minutes to put together and only thirty minutes of simmering before it is ready to enjoy. Great as a dipping sauce for calzones, it is also a perfect light sauce for most pasta dishes.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups chopped or roasted tomatoes
  • 1 cup homemade tomato paste (may substitute one tablespoon commercial tomato paste)
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried garlic granules
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • Pulse tomatoes and tomato paste in a blender until fairly smooth. Transfer to a medium saucepan on medium-high heat. 
  • Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Bring to a slow boil or a fast simmer. Cook uncovered for thirty minutes, stirring occasionally. 
  • Reduce heat to low and keep warm until ready to serve with calzones.
