Barbecued Jackfruit (aka Vegan “Pulled Pork”) In Your Instant Pot Or On Your Stovetop

We will be making Barbecue Jackfruit two ways, on the stovetop and with an Instant Pot. Both methods only take about fifteen to cook.

Ingredients

  • 2 16oz cans green jackfruit in brine aka young jackfruit
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons chili powder blend
  • 1 Tablespoon paprika
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon chipotle chili powder optional, may substitute cayenne
  • 2-3 Tablespoons Liquid Smoke
  • 1 teaspoon granulated onion
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1 1/2 cups Homemade Barbecue Sauce (You may substitute commercial BBQ sauce, but you’ll be missing out!)

Instructions

Stovetop:

  • With your thumb and forefinger pull the wedges of jackfruit apart until it resembles pulled pork. Cover with cold water to rinse out some of the brine. Drain, rinse and drain again.
  • Transfer to a covered skillet or sauté pan.
  • Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Serve hot on a bun or as a side dish.

Instant Pot:

  • With a fork pull the wedges of jackfruit apart until it resembles pulled pork. Cover with cold water to rinse out some of the brine. Drain, rinse and drain again.
  • Transfer to an Instant Pot liner. Add remaining ingredients and place into Instant Pot. Close steam vent. Cook on Manual High for 0 minutes. Instant release.
  • Serve hot on a bun or as a side dish.
